Buying a Computer

Eee PC

Computers are not toys of course, but they are something that children increasingly ask for, whether it be for playing games, doing their homework, or maybe even both. Computers used to be very expensive, but recently there's been a new arrival in the world of computer which is cheap, accessible and very, very portable.

The Eee PC from Asus is stunningly light, and therefore portable, and is the perfect entry level machine for students or anyone in fact, that wants a nice, easy to use computer.

It comes at the moment with a 7" screen, and there's a 9" screen model too. Although it is available with Windows XP, the standard operating system is a flavour of Linux which has with it Firefox web browser, Open Office, Skype, instant messenger as well as some cool little games. Connect it to the internet with its Wifi built in, or use an ethernet cable or you can even plug a 3g dongle or mobile phone into the USB port. If you primarily want a computer which will get you online, send emails, talk to friend etc, the Asus Eee PC is great. Prices start at about the £200 mark which means it makes a lot less of a dent on the family finances than some laptops.
